Are you working safely

For tradesman it's important to be safe

When you're working with tools and materials, before even thinking about invoicing your customer, you should always think about safety. After all, everyone wants to get home in one piece. Then you can worry about creating an easy invoice. So, today's email is about how to be safe when working. A lot of you probably don't think about this. That’s when accidents happen. Our safety tips below will help you work safer and look more professional to your customers at the same time.

  • Clothing is important. Every day on site, wear protective equipment. It could be hard hats, safety goggles, gloves, and steel-toed boots. Don't forget about ear protection when working with loud machinery.
  • A messy work area causes accidents. Take a few minutes at the start and end of your day to tidy up. Put tools and materials away, clear walkways, and put dangerous items away. Working tidily will also make you look professional to your customers.
  • Inspect your tools and equipment often. If something's broken or damaged, fix it. Blunt tools can be more dangerous than sharp ones, so keep those saws and blades sharp.
  • Every job site should have an emergency plan and a first aid kit. Make sure everyone knows what to do if something goes wrong.
  • Picking things up the right way can save your back. Bend your knees, not your back, and carry close to your body. If something's too heavy, ask for help. Teamwork always wins.
  • Thirst and tiredness can lead to accidents. Tired and thirsty people make mistakes. Take regular breaks and drink. Your body and mind need rest to stay sharp.
  • If you see something wrong report it or sort it out. If you aren’t sure how to do something, ask for help. Looking out for one another is important.
